About Admiration Theatre Ensemble Laboratory

Exploring the actor’s process is the driving force of what we do: the actor’s inspiration, training, creation of work and performance. We are interested in working with depth and intensity, and in working with the whole actor to explore creativity.

We work with text, song, movement, and dance. We explore training exercises from a very wide range of world masters and traditions. We have a particular interest in how daily training and practice become performance.

In the last twelve months we have explored Hamlet in 5 different traditions: Traditional British, Stanislavski, Lecoq, Mime, Grotowski, in a unique comparative theatre project. We have held workshops on Stanislavski, Chaikin, Grotowski and Ensemble Theatre. We adapted Brecht’s ‘The Visions of Simone Marchard’ into our theatre piece ‘VISIONS’.

The focus of our search in the immediate future is: a deeper contemporary experience, exploring all forms of vision.

Participants discover a deep connection with the self in performance, and an intimacy and trust with oneself and the group.

We are looking for participants who have a good memory for movement and physical actions, and a desire to be daring and courageous. Our explorations encourage real creative freedom.

What is the purpose of our work? In London, where we are based, the industry is too focused on ‘casting’. There must be developed a greater sense of theatre as an art form, with traditions, styles and techniques which the actor develops over the long-term. The more the artists’ journey is developed in this way, the greater the creativity that will be liberated, and the more profound will be the artistic results. The experience of this is something that a contemporary audience needs very much. It is vital.
